تحمل كلمة «الحُب» ما تحمل من أسرار، وتجلب ما تجلب من أفراح وأتراح، فما أن يُصاب الإنسان بالحب، إلا وتتغير حاله، وتتبدل شئونه؛ فالحب يفعل ما يفعل في الإنسان لما له من أسرار وأعراض، والإمام «أبو محمد ابن حزم» في رائعته «طوق الحمامة» يغوص في بحار هذا السر الذي خُلِق مع الإنسان، فيُخرِج لنا أصوله، ويُعرفنا على أعراضه ونواحيه، وصفاته المحمودة والمذمومة، وكذلك الآفات التي تدخل على الحب وتلازمه، مُورِدًا بين ثنايا كتابه بعض القصص التي عاينها بنفسه عن الحب وأبطاله، ثم يختم رسالته الغنية هذه بأفضل ختام؛ وهو: قبح المعصية، وفضل التعفف؛ ليكون قد أحاط بالحب من كل جوانبه.
