Meeting Jonathan, a boy who lives nearby, goes a long way towards making Sara feel better about the move away from her friends into an old mansion. Still she can't shake off the feeling that all is not right in that house. And when one of her mother's dinner guests is shot when the lights go out, Sara is afraid that the danger has just begun. Sara would rather move, but she can't convince her mother that there's a connection between the murder and their home. What's worse, Sara is no longer sure if Jonathan's arms reach out to clasp her in love, or in a deathly grip.
