Author Jagdish Chandra Mathur has picked up a very emotional and patriotic story from the great uprising of 1857. This story describes the last days of freedom fighter Babu Kunwar Singh. He played an active role in the great uprising and was indeed a very big patriot. The story brings up some emotion and patriotism in the readers when Babu Kunwar Singh cuts his hand which was almost into two and sacrifices it to River Ganges(Who is reffered to as mother in the story) because it was useless and was made useless by a britisher which was even more bad for a freedom fighter. He like a patriot and a true king fights till the end even though he was 80 years old with bravery and courage for his country and people. At the end of the story he hands over his partially done job to his brother who is also as brave as him and then the story ends when Babu Kunwar Singh breathes his last breath.
