At 22, Alan Bates was cast in John Osborne's play controversial Look Back in Anger, which opened at the Royal Court, Sloane Square in 1956. The play changed the course of theatre - and of Alan's life. With a sudden rush of fame, he was considered a member of the rebellious young circle of scruffy anti-West End actors.
