In 1977, best friends and food lovers Phyllis Hinz and Lamont Mackay set out in a Volkswagen van to begin a nine-month culinary journey around Europe. After settling down to successful careers as restaurant owners, they hit the road again in 1998, this time to explore North America in a forty-foot motor home, seeing-and tasting-all that it has to offer. In RECIPES FROM THE ROAD, Phyllis and Lamont introduce the regional dishes and friendly folks they'¡?ve encountered traveling the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Finding ingredients in farmers' markets, roadside grocery stores, and sometimes on the end of a fishing line, the Cooking Ladies present 100 RV kitchen-tested recipes that anyone anywhere can cook on any stove. Phyllis and Lamont also share anecdotes from life on the road: you'¡?ll meet people like Steve Watson, a biker who sells twelve-inch cinnamon buns in the Yukon, Canada, and an Amish group that serves taco salad to RV owners passing through Goshen, Indiana. A treat for RVers, armchair travelers, and anyone with an appetite for adventure, RECIPES FROM THE ROAD proves that good eats and good company are just a bend in the road away. A collection of profiles, stories, and more than 100 recipes collected during the travels of Phyllis Hinz and Lamont Mackay, aka, the Cooking Ladies. Features such recipes as Shrimp in Beer Batter from Campbell River, British Columbia; Orange Spice Chicken Drumsticks from Fort Myers, Florida; and Lemon Marshmallow Pie from the Rio Grande Valley of Texas-and the stories behind the recipes. The Cooking Ladies are constantly touring North America; they post their weekly and monthly travelogue in select magazines and newspapers. Includes more than 200 full-color photographs of people, places, and food. Good Sam RV Club has more than one million members.
