Oscar Ellqvist was an active photographer in Stockholm from 1893 until the beginning of 1926. He is most often referred to as one of the pioneers in Swedish reportage photography, which he started already in the 1890s. At the Stockholm exhibition in 1897, Oscar was awarded a prize for his snapshots. Oscar was a popular and enterprising photographer who found new opportunities and was early with much of what he undertook. Oscar was the brother of the artist John Bauer's fairytale princess and wife Esther. It is interesting that two of his siblings also worked in the photo and cliché business and that they helped each other. The studio Oscar had the longest was the one in Sparrepalatset at Hamngatan 18. The house was demolished in 1913 when NK was built. The book is richly illustrated with over 150 photographs. The Stockholm motif dominates and we get to meet a now-disappeared city and its inhabitants in topographical images and reportage photos. The text in the book tells about Oscar and his professional life and how some of his siblings worked together with him. There are two digressions about Stockholm around the turn of the century 1900 and the photographer's challenges during this time Oscar Ellqvist var aktiv fotograf i Stockholm från 1893 fram till början av 1926.
