Hot War, Cold War is an examination of the way in which the British Army has fought its wars since 1945, and of the Army's place in defence policy. It identifies a distinctive style which has characterised both the Army's approach to war and its role in British defence policy. Despite the wide variety of conflicts in which the Army has been used - from the hills of Korea to the desert of Kuwait, and from the jungles of Malaya to the streets of Belfast - it has retained a remarkable consistency of approach. Further, despite the changes in Britain's world position since 1945, the place and role of the Army in defence policy has remained relatively unchanged. Together these constitute the British Army's 'way in warfare'.
