The famous film director of a leading international film studio is found murdered on the set in the South Yorkshire town of Bromersley. Nearby, a penniless tramp has been shot dead with a gold sovereign in his mouth. There are neither clues nor DNA for either murder, but Detective Inspector Michael Angel tackles this case with his customary tenacity. As usual, his superiors and the system seem to hinder him at every turn.
