The patch of blue
Work detail
This story answered a few questions for me about the wealthy characters in so many of Mrs. Hill's stories. Many stories are dated near the depression and I've often wondered how many book families theoretically made it through unscathed. In this book, the Walton family, with Mr. Walton at its head, bore the full brunt of a bank failure (he was its president) and resulting change of social standing, and came through with great faith. The son of the family, Chris, endured having his plans for his senior year in college dashed and having to find work. Thus his path crossed with that of Natalie Halsey, a quiet Christian girl from his high school class. Chris learns much from Natalie about faith in the midst of disappointment and loss.
