Claire
Work detail
Claire is a vivid, engaging, unsettling novel, unravelling the love of an ordinary man for an extraordinary woman, in the day before yesterday. The narrator, now old, looks back on the one great love of his life, in a final attempt to make sense of the times which damaged and defined him. There is little background, little life outside his story, and only one thing on his mind: the love which consumes him in detail that is, by turns, obsessive and lyrical, precious and cheap. He is haunted by memories that will not fade, and questions left unanswered. A sharp and sugar-sweet journey through the pathology of love.
