Elsa Sundling (1902- 1964) left family and country behind and made a career as an architect. For more than thirty years she was active in six different cities in three different countries, but also in the architectural movements that paved the way for the ideas and ideals of modernism. Rest was an unknown concept to this energetic architect who worked constantly, out of desire and unbridled habit. During the 1920s, she went through both painting studies and architecture studies in Paris and got her first job with the concrete pioneer Auguste Perret. She then had specialist knowledge in acoustics, concrete structures and strength calculations and designed at least seventeen cinemas in Paris. She is also one of the architects behind Västerås CHP plant. But like many other female pioneers, she was left empty-handed after her death. The book tells the story that has never before had room to be told.
