The past few decades have witnessed a renewed interest in meta issues regarding the status of the human sciences. The resurgence in interest in the epistemological, political and ethical aspects of the human sciences is mainly due to post-modernist critiques of the practice of human sciences research. This volume contains a wide range of viewpoints (both modernist and post-modernist) by leading South African scholars. The contributions challenge us to rethink our most fundamental assumptions about the nature of research and its consequences.
