The story pivots a tragic triangle linking Devdas, an archetypal lover in viraha (separation); Paro, his forbidden childhood love; and Chandramukhi, a reformed courtesan. Devdas is madly in love with Paro since they were almost 10 years old. Due to Academic Pressure from his father, Devdas moves to London for further studies when he was young. This separates him from Paro for a long time. Meanwhile, Paro never lets her love for Devdas die. When Devdas returns to India, the love between them reignites but they couldn't marry due to vengeance cultivated between their respective families. In melancholic sadness of separating from his love, Devdas becomes an alcohol addict and chooses the path of destruction which is when he meets Chandramukhi, a courtesan. The story takes twist and turns and forms a love triangle between Devdas, Paro and Chandramukhi.
