"In this book, the commando soldiers tell the story of their units - of No. 1 Commando's last great fight on the ridge at Kangaw, of 2 Commando at Salerno and rampaging through the islands of the Adriatic, of 3, the first Commando to be raised, storming ashore at Vaagso and Dieppe, at Termoli and D-Day. Then there is No. 4, taking Flushing on the coast of Walcheren in 1944, No. 5 in Madagascar and Burma, No. 6 fighting in North Africa and Normandy under Derek Mills Roberts, a soldier's soldier. Here, too, are tales of 7, 8 and 11th Scottish Commando, and Layforce, fighting everyone, including the Staff, to hold their own at Bardia, in Crete, on the Rommel raid, and on the Litani River.
