Twelve-year-old Jim sails from Bristol as deck boy on the "Four Winds," a blockade-runner bringing powder and guns from England to the Confederate States. After a difficult voyage, the ship sinks. Jim and some crewmates make their way to land and find themselves in the middle of the War.
