"When the Canadian government decided to bring European settlers to the Prairies, it asked the area's First Nations to sign treaties in which they agreed to live on reserves. The Métis became concerned that they, too, would be asked to give up their land. They asked Louis Riel, a Métis leader, to help them. When the government dismissed their concerns, the Métis and several First Nations united to fight the government."--P. [4] of cover.
