Anglicans and Tradition and the Ordination of Women
Work detail
Dr McAdoo uses his affinity with the Anglican divines and the breadth of his ecumenical experience to demonstrate that the decision to ordain women is in harmony with the classical Anglican synthesis : the appeal to Scripture, reason and tradition. Throughout their history, Anglicans have wrestled constructively with new questions and have often found their way to solutions through conflict. Yet for some the ordination of women remains controversial. In drawing attention to the inadequacy of a fundamentalist view of either Scripture or tradition, this book does more than simply defend an Anglican position. Rather, it offers a significant contribution to the continuing debate and an authoritative apologia for the Anglican method of self-understanding and the development of doctrine. --
