Moselgold
Work detail
Catalog for an exhibition held Oct. 10, 2008 through Jan. 18, 2009 at the Musée national d'histoire et d'art, Luxembourg, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the Machtum treasure, a Late Roman hoard of gold coins and medals uncovered in 1958 during dredging of the Moselle River between Ahn and Machtum on the Germany-Luxembourg border. The Museum meticulously set about reassembling the Machtum treasure which had been dispersed on the international art market immediately after its discovery. In addition to the Machtum treasure, the exhibition includes 12 other treasures, comparable to that found at Machtum.
