In 1953 Anna Fehrbach, still remembered as the Countess von Widerstand, is enjoying her Bahamian hideaway, now happily married and contemplating raising a family. It is three years since the last attempt of the Russians to arrest her and take her back to be tried and executed for her Nazi-inspired attempt on the life of Joseph Stalin. Anna has just begun to believe that her arch-enemy, Lavrenty Beria, has at last abandoned the chase. But Beria has been remorselessly tracking her all this time, and when she is lured into one last job for the CIA with the promise of honourable retirement and the right to settle anywhere in the United States, she is plunged back into the Russian orbit. The result is a breathtaking story of espionage and revenge, reaching a dramatic and historically accurate climax in which Anna achieves her final victory.
