The United States is Vietnam's largest trading partner, with Americans buying over $7 billion in Vietnamese goods each year. In addition, hundreds of thousands of Americans are once again invading Vietnam. In 2013 alone, more than 430,000 US tourists visited the country. What they are finding is a prosperous, peaceful country of 93 million people far different from the war-torn nation that Americans saw on their TV sets when the last US troops withdrew in 1975. Vietnam today is a major world tourists destination. Its sparkling beaches, lush greenery, and spectacular natural formations, as well as its monuments, buildings, and unique culture, draw millions each year. Although Vietnam today remains officially an undeveloped country, its economy has grown by leaps and bounds since its nominally communist government loosened restrictions on business growth and development beginning in 1985, spurring rapid economic growth. - p. 5-6.
