The book presents the results of Ewa Wipszycka in-depth researches on late antique Egyptian monasticism. It is not a translation of her previous work (Moines et communautés monastiques en Égypte IVe-VIIIe siècles) published a decade ago. The English book provides the reader with a greater wealth of information interpreted in a much more mature manner than the French one. Also, it includes references to newly published materials, what makes it a more up-to-date study.
