Chapter 1: A study of the *Variae* of Cassiodorus in relationship to contemporary Byzantine production (S. Barnish). Chapter 2: A survey of science in Late Antiquity and of the application of scientific knowledge to practical purposes by Boethius and Cassiodours (L. Cracco Ruggini). Chapter 3: An edition of the *Chronica pontificum* in the manuscript Vat.lat. 1348 (Vatican Library). Quite unlike the Roman Book of Pontiffs in inspiration, the *Chronica* is attributed to northern Italy, 6-7th century, and possibly influenced by Columbanus of Bobbio (L. Cuppo). Chapter 4: A beautifully illustrated survey of Armenian art on embroidered liturgical vestments from the collection of the Armenian Patriarchate in Istanbul (R. Marchese and M. Breu).
