"This is a complicated book that addresses a complex and controversial topic. With "populist and Islamist movements" we refer to a broad spectrum of contemporary movements and tendencies that may be loosely dubbed as "the Right." The Right, in the sense we use that concept, in this book can be both religious and political - and is predominantly a mixture of both. We address the question at hand from different perspectives, reflecting the distinct environments in which we live, teach, and interact. ... This book is intended to reflect sober analysis of a trend that largely defines the contemporary age, and to focus, in part - but by no means exclusively - on the impact of free speech and its possible limits. In that sense, we pay particular attention to the use of rhetoric within the context of the rise of the Right. We do so because of the importance of language in explaining and understanding this development"--
