With An Answer to all Objections made by Dr. Hollingsworth and others, in Defence of the said Book. Published for Publick Satisfaction, and in Vindication of the Author hereof. 4to. f. [1] (blank), pp. [2], 37, [1] (blank). Signatures: A-E4. Bound in 19th-century quarter vellum, with golden spine and green lettering panel. Manuscript “8” on p. [38]. First edition, first issue, by the former curate to John Gauden – 48 years earlier – who fully endorses Gauden’s authorship claims of the Eikon Basilike, or ‘the King’s Book’ of the deposed and martyred Charles I. The Eikon Basilike had 64 editions or discrete issues recorded in 1649 alone, and a controversial literature (mainly regarding the true authorship, probably that of Bishop John Gauden) extending to our own day.
