Leon Garfield has made a particular name for himself as a writer of stories for children set in the eighteenth century. Each story tells of a child apprenticed for seven years in a certain trade. His books have received multiple awards, and been translated into many languages as well as televised. The "Apprentices" series contains twelve books, the first three of which are contained in this volume Book #1 - The Lamplighter’s Funeral The story of Possul, the street urchin who becomes the lamplighter’s apprentice. Book #2- *Mirror, Mirror* The story of Nightingale, apprenticed to a mirror frame carver, and besieged by the master’s tormenting daughter. Book #3- *Moss and Blister* The story of Blister, the skinny foundling girl apprenticed to a midwife, who hurries to a birth in a London stable on Christmas eve.
