Jean-Baptiste Isabey, like François Gérard or Anne-Louis Girodet, made his name under the Revolution and the Empire. Like them, he trained as a painter of history in the studio of Jacques-Louis David and attended the school of the Royal Academy of painting. But Isabey has differentiated herself from her colleagues by making miniature and finished drawing her specialties.
