Description Des Médailles Et Antiquités Composant Le Cabinet De M. Le Baron Behr
Work detail
8vo, later full tan morocco; front cover bordered and elaborately paneled in black, with central lozenge; spine ruled, lettered and decorated in black; ochre endpapers. viii, 229 (1) pages; 1188 + 83 listings; 3 plates of ancient coins engraved by Dardel. Spine rubbed; free of the foxing encountered on other examples. Very good or better. A specially bound copy, one of the more elaborate BCD bindings executed by Dionysis Valassis. Babelon 220: “Baron Behr, Belgian ambassador to Constantinople; an important collection, particularly for Greek autonomous coins. See Rev. num., 1856, pp. 432 and following.” Leitzmann 76. A Note from the Collector: It would not be an exaggeration to say that Dardel’s etchings are as close to perfection as possible and for this reason this collector thought that they deserve a very special home.
