From sun-drenched landscapes to scenes in bright spotlights. Painters of light. Monet tot Sluijters presents in six themes how artists depict light around 1900. With its strong emphasis on Impressionism and Modernism, Singer Laren's collection is ideally suited to put painters of light in the spotlight. After the 17th century, light will again become an important subject for artists in the course of the 19th century. Painters exchange their studios to work in the open air on site, also in the Laren artists' colony. This marks the beginning of a decades-long focus on light. Claude Monet and Max Liebermann paint impressions of natural light, Jan Toorop and Ferdinand Hart Nibbrig dot vibrating light effects and Jan Sluijters experiments with color to depict his sensation of light. Leo Gestel catches the? Inner light? in portraits, while Kees Maks stages his performances with artificial light. Finally, this book takes you on a journey to the southern light, with artists such as Kees van Dongen and Charley Toorop. Exhibition: Singer Museum, Laren, The Netherlands (01.09.2020 - 10.01.2021). Exhibition: Singer Museum, Laren, The Netherlands (01.09.2020 - 10.01.2021).
