Founded in 1975, the Prairie Fire Organizing Committee (later PFOC) described itself as "a grassroots activist organization" that works to bring "social change" to an American nation it characterizes as rife with "racism, sexism, homophobia, classism and imperialism" -- a land governed by "a capitalist system that favors a select few and oppresses the majority."
