The ON THE AIR sign lit up again. Dwayne leaned towards the mike, and then flipped the studio switch for the phone line. "Howdy, stranger, and welcome to KRAP's own Dwayne an' Arlo Show." A slow, dark laugh. "Call me 'Shooter'." "That's a mighty mean name, there, Mister Shooter. Maybe we could pick something else?" "Naw, it's the right name. 'Cause if you start messin' with me, I'm going to put a bullet in this here girl's sweet face." A pause. Then the BANG! of a gunshot. It was followed by the choked scream of a woman. The sound of wailing and blubbering. Muffled, as if through a layer of cloth, but it sounded loud and clear over the cheap studio speakers. Dwayne and Arlo froze. What in God's name had they just gotten themselves into? *** Tune into rural Texas' radio station KRAP (don't touch that dial, there's KRAP on it!) as a pair of down-home country DJs try their damnedest to stop a murder...all while they're still on the air. The short story 'Sharpest Tool in the Shed' includes preview chapters of Michael Angel's novel of 'Fantasy and Forensics', Centaur of the Crime.
