Beginning with Dutch ancestor, Claes Simonse of Uythuysen, DeFrees follows Claes' descendants up to 20th century. In the U.S. these descendants live primarily in the Midwest and New York. In Canada, they can be found in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. DeFrees was the historian for the Outhouse Family Historical Society.
