Convergence, 8 photographers
Work detail
"The Photographic Resource Center invited Deborah Willis, curator of photographs and prints at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black culture, to guest curate an exhibition of contemporary photographic imagery by African-American artists. The motives were straightforward: 1. the PRC's exhibitions program, initiated in 1985, under-represented black artists even though our record for inclusion of women and other artists of color ranged from excellent to respectable; 2. [...] We knew that excellent work was being done by young African-American photographers, but we were not locating these individuals easily." -- Anita Douthat, PRC curator, page 3.
