Written for the English angler, Part I describes the trip from England across the Atlantic through New York, Washington, D.C. (including a meeting with President Roosevelt), North Carolina, and arrival in Florida. Part II explains the practices, customs and equipment related to tarpon fishing, and gives examples of particular fishing episodes. Descriptions follow of other fishing, the hunting of alligators, and end with miscellaneous notes on the fauna of Florida. Part III briefly describes the continuation of the author's voyage, making stops at Cuba, Jamaica, the Panama Canal construction, the coasts of Colombia and Venezuela, Trinidad and Bridgetown.
