Stand-alone reprint of an article appearing in the *Lutheran Quarterly Review*, July 1865 (Information derived from *A list of Lincolniana in the Library of Congress*). M.L. Stoever was a member of the faculty at Pennsylvania College (now Gettysburg College) at the time of original publication. He and his family weathered the Battle of Gettysburg in their home on the town's main square. The faculty and students of Pennsylvania College were in the procession to the Soldiers' National Cemetery on November 19th, 1863 and saw Lincoln deliver his "Gettysburg Address."
