The scene of contemporary design in Brazil, concentrated in the creation of furniture and household items, emerged in the late 1980s, when the production of names such as the Brothers Campana, Carlos Motta and Claudia Moreira Salles began to surface in the modern period, of icons such as Joaquim Tenreiro, Sergio Rodrigues and Michel Arnoult, reinvigorated today. Since then, the contemporary scene has acquired maturity, the pioneers have gained the company of more than a hundred distinguished colleagues and the meaning of design has been expanded: today it can be art, tool of transformation or denunciation. Among countless actors - such as schools, specialists, events, galleries and media - the sector is organized by a tripod, in which the designer is one of the points of support, balancing with two other protagonists: industry and retail.
