Ignorance, superstition, priestcraft and immorality were the hallmarks of the church in England in the fourteenth century, under the dominance of a degenerate papacy. John Wycliffe and his followers, the Lollards, believed and preached that man's life must be ruled by God's Word and not inherited tradition.
