With the sumptuous graphic series »Lines of Beauty« Margarete Lindau created an idiosyncratic comment on William Hogarth's famous Analysis of Beauty that expands and refreshes the normative concept of a single line of beauty. Bundles of elegantly curved lines pose in 66 figures, as if they were trying to outdo each other with ever new and surprisingly wide movements and expressive colour combinations: one is tempted to speak of Lines of Beauty and Colour. The book presents high quality reproductions of the original linocuts that were printed using reduction technique (»lost plate«). They are accompanied by excerpts of Hogarth's Analysis of Beauty and a text by Heike Geißler, who is eavesdropping on the chatting between the beautiful lines.
