"Pantagruel is the grotesque protagonist at the limits of absurdity in some novels by the French Renaissance writer Francois Rabelais. A creature of gigantic proportions, and voracious appetites, Pantagruel could represent contemporary society characterized by a tension toward change and a healthy desire for knowledge, on the one hand, and fragility and fear, on the other. The exhibition The Pantagruel Syndrome, curated by Francesco Bonami and Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev is the first edition of TI Torino Triennale Tremusei. With works by 75 young artists and two solo exhibition devoted to Takashi Murakami and Doris Salcedo, TI explores this "syndrome" through paintings, sculpture, photography, installation, video, performance, sound projects and collective and anonymous projects by artists from round the world who explore the excess of our Pantagruelic universe."--BOOK JACKET.
