Redouté to Warhol
Work detail
"This catalog accompanies the New York Botanical Garden exhibition Redouté to Warhol: Bunny Mellon’s Botanical Art, which features masterworks of the botanical art collection belonging to the late Rachel Lambert (“Bunny”) Mellon. Curated by Dr. Lucia Tongiorgi Tomasi, Susan Fraser, and Tony Willis, the exhibition comprises nearly 80 important works of art ranging from rare watercolors by renowned botanical artists, such as Jacques Le Moyne de Morgues and Pierre-Joseph Redouté, to 20th-century paintings by Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol. This exhibition catalog provides a new perspective from which to appreciate Bunny Mellon's extensive collection and appreciation of botanical art. Renowned as art collectors, Paul and Bunny Mellon were among the most generous donors to the National Gallery of Art. They contributed to the Gallery more than 1,000 carefully selected, distinguished works of art—primarily French and American paintings and drawings—originally acquired for their private enjoyment, but always with the intention that they would one day be shared with the American public."--
