*The Banner of Joan* is a series of poems with prose interjections making up the epic adventure of Joan of Arc — how she moved among as dissolute and callously cynical a society as ever lived, never losing her courage or her trust in the innate goodness of man, whether she knelt to the Angelus in her field, led an army into battle, crowned a coward king, or faced down sixty judges with only one motif — to do her a terrible death.
