Strategies for promoting excellence in a time of scarce resources
Work detail
Colleges and universities are responding to cost containment by reducing expenditures and seeking new sources of revenue. These efforts alone, however, are not sufficient in light of federal and state legislative initiatives for prisons and health care, both of which appear to be taking priority over education. Furthermore, responses of downsizing, restructuring, and quality improvement have improved management of colleges and universities. This volume describes how executive management has used selected strategies to improve management of expenditures and revenues while supporting excellence of the fundamental missions of teaching, research, and public service.
