In the first short story, "Last Stand Mesa," from the San Saba to Dodge City, and many places in between, there were men who remembered Mike McLean -- too many of them. That's why his long dodge is finally over -- and why he now has to make his last stand. "Powdersmoke Empire" sees a wild town -- a hangout for gunmen, thieves, and outlaws -- under the protection of Big Mac. And the ramrod of the mob was Bain Foyle, Big Mac's Number One Man. Honesty was a dangerous luxury here, but for Bain Foyle it would become a priceless necessity. "The Mustang Trail" features Rogue Bishop, who looks exactly like what he is -- a sharp-edged, tougher than nails, gun-slinging gambler. Usually he sticks to poker and bets straight on his own nerve. But this time he's playing on luck -- to catch a horse thief. It's his biggest gamble ever -- a cutthroat game right down to the last chip.
