This book discusses the tools and techniques for modelling, analysis, specification and integration of modern manufacturing systems. It first presents the concept of the extended enterprise as a way of inter-enterprise integration. It then focuses on enterprise engineering methods and tools to address intra-enterprise integration using a model-based approach. The book is organized into eight parts: the extended enterprise, enterprise engineering, business process modelling and re-engineering, manufacturing system specification, manufacturing system analysis, manufacturing system coordination and integration, and pre-normative and standardization issues. It contains selected papers from the European Workshop on Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering, organized by the International Federation for Information Processing and held in Grenoble, France, in December 1994. This book will be essential reading for industrial, mechanical and production engineers and consultants working in industry or universities. It will also be of interest to post-graduate students in the disciplines of mechanical and industrial engineering.
