Jobless and in debt, journalist Leo Lichy grudgingly leaves Canada and returns to England. He is single, lonely and depressed, unable to adjust to the grimy world of the Working Man, and longing for an escape to his familiar hedonistic way of life. From Assistant Paperclip Coordinator to high school matron, Leo finds that struggling through the cesspool of unskilled employment is soul-destroying stuff. The life of a miser, squandering his drinking hours undertaking monotonous work for somebody else's benefit is not a life worth its salt. But what alternative is there? For Leo Lichy that nomadic, decadent existence he so desperately craves is about to be his again. However, rather than flitting across the globe in search of a good party, he is chasing a different fantasy ...a beautiful woman and the promise of a second "first date." Civilising the Working Man is rousing testimony to the value of turning one's back on career and financial savoir-faire in favour of chasing one's dreams.
