The pamphlet holdings of the Augsburg State and City Library extend from the 16th to the beginning of the 19th Century. The collection contains about 3,500 titles, a majority of which from the 17th Century. As historical objects, the Augsburg pamphlets collection conform to the definition of pamphlets as non-periodical brochures, mostly of short length, that report about, and comment on, current politics and contemporary events as well as controversial debates. They address a broad public and aim at reaching their readers quickly and efficiently. Topics covered by the pamphlets are the Thirty Years War, with particular emphasis on the outbreak of war (with 430 titles covering the years 1618-1621); the triumphs of the Swedish King Gustav Adolf up to his death (182 titles covering the years 1630-1632); the period of the Swedish-Polish War and the change of sides of Brandenburg to an alliance with the Emperor (1656-1658); the Turkish War against Emperor Leopold I (with 45 titles covering the years 1663-1664); and the declaration of the Imperial War against France (1673-74). The database permits to search the bibliographic records of the pamphlets and to download pdf files of either passages, chapters, or whole documents. The downloaded pdf files remain accessible for a limited time period, following which they may be downloaded again from the publisher's web site.
