Book 17/5 of "The Archaeology of York: The Small Finds". These are published for the York Archaeological Trust by the Council for British Archaeology. This came out in 1989. The book Contents: Comparative Materials, Preservation of the Finds, Types of Fiber (including wool staples), fibre preparation, Anglo-Scandinavian wool textiles, the York sock in nalbinding (with excellent photos in the appendix), A-S Textiles of vegetable fibre, A-S silks (with a comment on the reliquary pouch), a tablet-woven braid, Medieval textiles, Yarn and Cordage (A-S and Medieval), Colour (with an article on detection and identification of dyes), Needlework on A-S textiles, the Textiles in Context, and the Conservation of Finds. There is a microfiche tucked in a pocket in the back cover. It covers how the weaving was done, looms and techniques, and industrial development. It analyses the nalbinding done on the sock.
