**English**: In mid-December 1553, the governor of Chile, Pedro de Valdivia, left Concepción, a city he himself had founded, to go on an exploratory trip to Araucanía, also with the aim of reducing the pockets of Mapuche resistance, which remained hostile to the Spanish conquerors. Informed about this expedition, Lautaro, military leader of the Mapuche armies, and former page of Valdivia himself, prepares his men for the imminent confrontation. Knowing the warlike capacities of the Spaniards, he will try to take advantage of his knowledge of the terrain and the surprise factor.
