Actress Catriona Forbes returns home to Scotland to visit her grandparents - and she's sorely in need of a break from her hectic lifestyle anyway! She's accompanied by Simon Meredith, a sort of boyfriend and unbeknownst to Catriona, a thoroughly unpleasant character who tries to rip off her grandparents, advising them to sell him their house, along with others on the island - to develop the land and make a pile of money, regardless of how the island would be despoiled. Simon, who also tries to manipulate Catriona and colludes with an ex-girlfriend of hunky hero Lachlan Erskine's to make Catriona believe badly of Lachlan, is quickly dispatched by latter. For her part, Catriona's 'hostility' towards Lachlan is due to his having avoided her in the past. She thinks that was 'reverse snobbery' since Lachlan always came across as a 'know-nothing' local. She's therefore greatly surprised to find that the 'know-nothing' local, as she's always thought of him, has made good...he's now a world famous playwright no less ! Lachlan, aware of Catriona's inaccurate beliefs about him, wants a spot of revenge before he seduces her - now she's of legal age. He threatens to throw her grandparents out of their cottage if she doesn’t accompany him to a windswept island to help him with his new play. Catriona reluctantly stays with him in an abandoned stone house while they act out various scenarios for a murder mystery. Romantic! After a few exhausting days of psychological torture, Lachlan reveals that surprise! The play is already written. He just wanted to be closer to her. 'Happy ever after' ensues...
