This book was first published in French by Gallimard Jeunesse in 1993. Then published in English, German and Dutch in 1994. The author Vijay Singh is a well-known Indian writer, film-maker and screenplay writer living in Paris, France. Some of his other works are the books Jaya Ganga, In Search of the River Goddess (also published in French) , Whirlpool of Shadows (Jonathan Cape, also published in French as "Tourbillon d'ombres", Ramsay) and La Nuit Poignardée (in French), and the films One Dollar Curry and Jaya Ganga (Jaya, Fille du Gange).
