"Zubin Mehta: The Score of My Life is a frank and direct account of Mehta's entire musical life, beginning with his sheltered early years in Bombay, which he left at age eighteen for the unique culture of Vienna's Musikakademie. Less than a decade later, he would become the music director for both the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He would go on to lead orchestras in Tel Aviv, Florence, and Munich as well as the New York Philharmonic, for which he was the longest serving music director in its history." "Throughout this memoir, Mehta shares an insider's view of the classical music world at its highest levels. He details his philosophy as a conductor and the challenges he has faced. He gives personal accounts of events such as the famous Three Tenors concerts and close friendships with such luminaries as Daniel Barenboim and Itzhak Perlman. Mehta also talks about his private life - about his marriages and children as well as his thoughts on politics. Special emphasis is given to his warm relationship with Israel and his efforts to use music to bring people together."--Jacket.
